Liturgy Study and Hallel

Date:

Sunday, August 16, 2015, 2:00 pm

Our deepened High Holy Days observance begins on Sunday August 16th – with the beginning of Elul. It is the month leading up to the High Holy Days, a time to get ready for the spiritual journey of turning and renewal for the new year. Traditionally during this month we hear the shofar, begin to use some High Holy Days melodies and read specific texts.

Our Or Zarua observation will – in the spirit of our community – resonate with those traditional practices in the best possible Or Zarua way. We are going to sing together, pulling in selections from Hallel for the new month and songs that point us in the direction of the new year ahead. We’re going to study two ways. Zachy will share his Bar Mitzvah teaching, and we will dive into parts of our Reconstructionist High Holy Days prayerbook. Also involved: the sound of the shofar.
